If ever one needed a “How to parent” manual it’s now. Trying to parent the way our parents parented us is an exercise that would leave one frustrated. There are definitely many great tips we can take away from our own childhood experiences and methods employed by our parents but with digitalization, it’s imperative that methods change. For example, in times past, “go to your room…you’re grounded” was a punishment any child resented, however, in this day & age sending a child to his / her room as a way of disciplining him /her just might be an exciting “proposal” for a child who views it as alone time with their gadgets and devices. A more effective way of disciplining in this case may be to restrict access to gadgets, screen time and the digital world…internet, social media.
As important as it is for parents to ensure their children are safe in the physical world, it is extremely important to help keep them safe in the digital world.
