Only A Few Seconds…

As we pay attention to keeping our children safe online and adopt Parental Control (PC) and other measures to filter content, it’s also very important that we are mindful of the dangers that could arise as a result of distractions while using our mobile devices. A lot of the time  we reckon it would only take a few seconds to respond to that text…change the music playing while driving… but unfortunately, a few seconds of distraction can make the difference between life & death.

In August 2016, Tomasz Kroker made a decision to change the music playing on his phone while driving. This “few seconds” of distraction resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.

As I reflect on this video, I remember the wise saying “Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone”.  Many of us are very guilty of distracted driving and walking. I remember when I fell victim of “dangerous walking” as I tried to juggle looking at Google map and walking to my destination. Thankfully the only injury I suffered was to my dignity as I landed on all fours on the streets of London! Unfortunately for some it’s a lot more serious than that.

Safety is a key element in being responsible digital citizens and using our mobile devices while walking or driving is a major risk. All it takes is a few seconds of distraction.
