Strict Mothers Have Better Children (New Research)

Erica Rascon-Ramirez, a professor at the University of Essex, conducted a study which showed that children who had strict parents, were more self-confident and secure. Over 15000 schoolgirls between the age of 13 and 14 took part in the 4-year study. The study also showed that successful people had very demanding mothers. Naturally, I thought about my mum and how she raised my two sisters and I. My mum was strict! Start Them Young To Lead

In recent times, there has been a focus on the need to have young people in governance in the Nigerian political scene. The #NotTooYoungToRun campaign seeks to reduce the age limit for running for elected office in Nigeria and globally. While I certainly agree that an infusion of “young blood” would be a progressive move especially in view of the fact that over half of the global population is under 30 years of age, my focus is more on how as parents and educators, we can raise our children to be successful leaders. At The End of The Day, What Really Matters?

Every once in a while, it’s important to just slow down from all the hustle and bustle and think about what is really important. This struck a chord. I’d like to share excerpts from a story someone sent to me purportedly shared by a very successful gentleman who had risen to the zenith of the corporate ladder… He said when he was still a manager, he was very active and rarely at home. He was making good money and providing for all his children’s need. One morning, as he was rushing off as usual, his little son was walking out of … Continue reading At The End of The Day, What Really Matters?

How To Raise Successful Children without Over-parenting

By loading kids with high expectations and micromanaging their lives at every turn, parents aren’t actually helping. At least, that’s how Julie Lythcott-Haims sees it. With passion and wry humor, the former Dean of Freshmen at Stanford makes the case for parents to stop defining their children’s success via grades and test scores. Instead, she says, they should focus on providing the oldest idea of all: unconditional love. Here is an excerpt from the video…It’s definitely worth watching. ….But if you look at what we’ve done, if you have the courage to really look at it, you’ll see that not … Continue reading How To Raise Successful Children without Over-parenting
